Victoria Falls- Zambia and Zimbabwe have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening regional energy cooperation following a high-level meeting of the Zambezi River Authority Council of Ministers held in Victoria Falls yesterday.
Ministers responsible for energy and water from both countries expressed optimism after noting improved river flow levels in the Zambezi Basin, a development expected to boost water availability and power generation.
Zimbabwe’s Energy Minister, Honourable July Moyo, said the cooperation comes at a critical time, as both countries have previously faced energy shortages.
A major breakthrough at the meeting was the resolution of the long-standing Ex-CAPCO debt owed to Zambia, a move expected to deepen bilateral relations and unlock progress on joint energy projects.
The ministers also reviewed progress on the Batoka Gorge Hydro-Electric Scheme, a flagship project aimed at promoting sustainable energy and regional development.
