UNICEF Provides Lifesaving Nutrition to Malnourished Children in Mudzi
Written by Staff Reporter on July 24, 2024
In response to the devastating impact of the El Niño drought, UNICEF Zimbabwe has launched an emergency nutrition program to support malnourished children in Mudzi. The initiative, led by village health workers like Noleen Chikonyora, focuses on providing a nutrient-rich porridge made from locally sourced ingredients.
The porridge is specifically designed to address malnutrition, which has become a significant concern in the community due to the drought’s severe impact on agricultural yields. With inadequate food supplies, many families are struggling to feed their children, making UNICEF’s intervention crucial.
To expand its reach and support the most vulnerable communities in Zimbabwe, UNICEF is appealing for $84.9 million in funding. The funds will be used to establish rapid response teams, community gardens, and school feeding schemes, ensuring that those most affected by the drought receive the necessary assistance.
