TSCZ Warns Public About Crossing Flooded Rivers and Bridges

Written by on March 3, 2025

The Traffic Safety Council of Zimbabwe (TSCZ) has issued a stern warning to the public regarding the dangers of crossing flooded rivers and bridges, as this risky behavior can be fatal for both adults and children.

According to the TSCZ’s Media and Corporate Communication Officer, Mrs. Lucy Kuwandira-Mapfumo, the powerful currents in flooded rivers can easily overwhelm individuals, leading to drowning. Additionally, the slippery surfaces can increase the likelihood of falls and injuries.

To mitigate these risks, the TSCZ emphasizes the importance of educating children about the dangers of crossing flooded rivers. Raising awareness and adherence to safety guidelines are crucial in preventing fatalities.

Motorists are strongly advised against attempting to cross flooded rivers, as this can cause damage to their vehicles, leading to engine failure, and may result in drowning or injuries.

The TSCZ urges all individuals to seek alternative routes and prioritize their safety to avoid injuries and fatalities.
