Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, Professor Amon Murwira, has reaffirmed the nation’s commitment to international peace, particularly in the conflict ridden Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) emphasizing dialogue over violence.
Speaking at a press conference yesterday, Professor Murwira emphasized the critical need for all parties involved in the DRC conflict to engage in meaningful dialogue and pursue peaceful resolutions. He stressed that violence and the use of force are not, and never will be, sustainable solutions.
Professor Murwira highlighted the vital role of regional organizations such as the Southern African Development Community (SADC) and the East African Community (EAC) in mediating the ongoing crisis. He commended their ongoing efforts to de-escalate tensions and facilitate dialogue between the conflicting parties.
He pointed to recent initiatives, such as the joint SADC and EAC Heads of State and Government summit held earlier this month, as crucial platforms for exploring viable solutions and ultimately ending the violence in the DRC.
