In a powerful address at the SADC Finance and Investment Ministers Meeting in Victoria Falls, His Excellency Elias Magosi, Secretary-General of the Southern African Development Community (SADC), emphasized the urgent need for the region to diversify its trade partnerships and bolster internal markets in the face of increasing global financial uncertainty and trade tensions.

Magosi highlighted that the current global economic landscape is fraught with challenges—rising trade imbalances, tightening financial conditions, and entrenched structural weaknesses. He called on SADC member states to adopt a strategy of regional solidarity and assertive leadership to steer the economic development of the region effectively.

“Now is the time for SADC to build resilience and enhance our competitiveness,” Magosi stated, urging member states to collaborate and assert a more significant presence in global economic discussions. He underscored the importance of taking control of their economic futures through unity, strong leadership, and innovative, locally-sourced solutions tailored to address the unique challenges of the region.

Magosi’s call to action reflects a vision for SADC that prioritizes cooperation and self-determination, aiming to create a robust and sustainable economic framework in a rapidly changing world. The meeting serves as a crucial platform for member states to align their efforts and navigate the complexities of today’s global economic environment together.
