Population Solutions for Health says partnerships with the media remain critical in the fight against Gender-Based Violence and child marriages in Zimbabwe.
This came during a media sustainability workshop held recently in Harare where PSH stated that its “Love Shouldn’t Hurt” campaign, supported by the Swedish Embassy and the Ministry of Women Affairs, has been running awareness programmes since 2022 through radio, television, print and digital platforms.
The initiative has targeted communities including Luveve, Cowdray Park, Makokoba, Chitungwiza and Bindura, promoting healthy relationships and community engagement against violence.
PSH Marketing Manager Varaidzo Maniwa said the initiative seeks to empower men to become positive community leaders in the fight against GBV while encouraging peaceful family and social relations.
Maniwa added that the campaign also partnered with local musicians to produce awareness music aimed at expanding the campaign’s reach.
Some community champions shared testimonies during the workshop, saying the initiative helped transform their lives by discouraging abusive behaviour and harmful habits such as gambling.
Meanwhile, stakeholders at the workshop called on media houses to continue amplifying GBV and child marriage awareness campaigns even after the conclusion of Swedish Embassy support for the Love Shouldn’t Hurt initiative.
