President Mnangagwa Leads Nation in Honouring National Hero Richard Ruwodo

President Emmerson Mnangagwa today led the nation in paying final respects to National Hero Major-General (Retired) Richard Ruwodo at the National Heroes Acre, where thousands gathered to celebrate the life and legacy of a decorated liberation war veteran and dedicated public servant.

Wearing a Zimbabwean flag scarf, President Mnangagwa descended the red-carpeted steps of the National Heroes Acre following the solemn burial ceremony, underscoring the nation’s gratitude for Major-General Ruwodo’s distinguished contribution to the liberation struggle and national development.

The President was accompanied by Vice President Dr Constantino Chiwenga and Defence Minister Oppah Muchinguri-Kashiri, reflecting the significance Government attaches to preserving the legacy of Zimbabwe’s liberation heroes. Home Affairs and Cultural Heritage Minister Kazembe Kazembe walked ahead of the President as dignitaries departed the national shrine after the ceremony.

The burial brought together senior Government officials, military leaders, war veterans, diplomats and members of the public, who gathered to honour Major-General Ruwodo’s unwavering commitment to the country’s independence, sovereignty and security.

In his tribute, President Mnangagwa described the late national hero as a patriotic son of Zimbabwe whose service to the nation will remain an enduring source of inspiration for present and future generations.

The ceremony reaffirmed the country’s commitment to preserving the values of patriotism, sacrifice and national unity embodied by the heroes and heroines who dedicated their lives to securing and safeguarding Zimbabwe’s independence.
