President Emmerson Mnangagwa has hailed growing investment in renewable energy following the commissioning of the 10-megawatt New Glovers Solar Power Plant, describing the project as a major milestone in Zimbabwe’s journey towards industrialisation, rural transformation and sustainable energy production.

Speaking at the official commissioning ceremony, President Mnangagwa said reliable energy remains the backbone of economic growth and industrial expansion, stressing that the new solar facility aligns with Zimbabwe’s broader clean energy ambitions and the country’s Vision 2030 development agenda.

The President said Zimbabwe must take full advantage of its vast solar energy potential to address power shortages, drive productivity and accelerate socio-economic development, particularly in underserved communities.

He urged investors, industrial players, local authorities and Zimbabweans in the diaspora to channel investment into renewable energy and other strategic national priority sectors, saying partnerships in sustainable infrastructure were critical to unlocking long-term economic growth.

President Mnangagwa also challenged communities, institutions and businesses to embrace environmentally sustainable energy solutions, emphasising the need for a collective national approach to securing energy resilience.

Describing the New Glovers Solar Power Plant as a strong signal of increasing investor confidence, the President said the project demonstrates growing faith in Zimbabwe’s economic reforms and investment climate.

At the same time, he warned against acts of sabotage targeting strategic national infrastructure, stressing the importance of safeguarding developmental projects that contribute to economic stability and national progress.

The commissioning of the solar plant is expected to strengthen Zimbabwe’s renewable energy capacity while supporting government efforts to diversify energy sources, improve electricity supply and reduce dependence on conventional power generation.
