President Emmerson Mnangagwa has called on Zimbabweans to safeguard and pass on the country’s rich cultural heritage to future generations, describing culture as a cornerstone of national identity and social cohesion.

Speaking during National Culture Month commemorations in Bulawayo yesterday, President Mnangagwa said the celebrations provide an important platform for citizens to honour and celebrate Zimbabwe’s way of life as an independent and sovereign nation.

He said culture remains central to shaping the country’s identity, values and traditions, while fostering a shared sense of belonging among communities.

President Mnangagwa urged Zimbabweans to take pride in preserving indigenous knowledge systems, languages, customs and traditions, saying these form the foundation of the nation’s heritage and collective memory.

The President emphasised that Zimbabwe’s cultural diversity should be embraced as a unifying force that strengthens mutual understanding, peaceful coexistence and national development, rather than being viewed as a source of division.

He expressed appreciation for the participation of people from all provinces who gathered to showcase the country’s cultural richness through diverse languages, traditional attire, indigenous cuisine, music and dance.

President Mnangagwa said events such as National Culture Month play a critical role in promoting national unity and preserving the country’s unique identity in an increasingly globalised world.

The commemorations highlighted Zimbabwe’s commitment to celebrating cultural diversity while reinforcing the importance of preserving traditions and values for generations to come.
