Written by on November 14, 2024

At the 29th Conference of the Parties (COP29) held in Baku, Azerbaijan, President Emerson Mnangagwa underscored the urgent need for global action to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and mitigate the impacts of climate change.

The conference, which convenes nations and stakeholders from around the world, aims to address pressing climate issues, including the critical goal of limiting global warming to 1.5°C above pre-industrial levels. Achieving this target requires a concerted effort from all nations to curb emissions and implement effective climate policies.

Zimbabwe, like many countries, is already grappling with the devastating consequences of climate change, particularly through an ongoing drought exacerbated by the El Niño phenomenon.

President Mnangagwa emphasized that these challenges are a stark reminder of the urgent need for global cooperation in tackling the climate crisis.

COP29, which began on November 11, 2024, will continue through November 22, 2024. The conference presents an opportunity for world leaders to reaffirm their climate commitments and make significant progress in addressing the escalating climate crisis.
