Panthers Surge to Top with Dominant Win Over Royal Eagles

Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe — The Victoria Falls Panthers secured a dominant 84-28 victory over Royal Eagles Academy on Saturday, with the game turned one-sided by the absence of key players for the Eagles. Captain Justice Shoko and point guard Quinton Manyumeka were both sidelined, leaving the Eagles unable to mount a challenge.
The Panthers, now at the top of the league standings, were led by Zambian-based center Benard Chirwa, who posted 41 points, 8 rebounds, and 3 assists. Despite the absence of Tadiwa Kunaka, Cleopas Chitura contributed 14 points, although he struggled with turnovers, well below his usual standards.
Coach Brighton Musaidzi continued to give young players more exposure, with 15-year-old Munashe Kakurira and 16-year-old Coen Tsambani impressing. Newcomers Garnet Gweshe and Brandon Mugovera also made solid contributions.
Alec Shoko was the standout for the Eagles, finishing with 14 points and 7 rebounds, but lacked the support needed to compete.
The win moves the Panthers to the top of the standings, ahead of the Victoria Falls Suns, who still have a game in hand and could reclaim the lead.
The Suns’ match against the Hwange Titans was postponed due to unforeseen circumstances, with a new date to be announced soon.
