National Hero Victor Matemadanda Laid to Rest with Full Military Honours

National Hero Ambassador Victor Matemadanda was on Friday laid to rest with full military honours at the National Heroes Acre in Harare, bringing to a close a lifetime of dedicated service to Zimbabwe during the liberation struggle and in the post-Independence era.
The solemn burial ceremony drew senior Government officials, members of the defence and security services, family members, friends and mourners from across the country, who gathered to pay their final respects to one of Zimbabwe’s distinguished liberation fighters.
In an emotional farewell, family members and close associates cast handfuls of soil into the grave before laying wreaths in honour of the late national hero, whose life was defined by patriotism, sacrifice and unwavering commitment to the nation.
Ambassador Matemadanda, a decorated liberation war veteran, former Cabinet minister and diplomat, was celebrated for his enduring contributions to Zimbabwe’s freedom, governance and national development. Speakers and mourners reflected on his steadfast dedication to the ideals of the liberation struggle and his continued service to the country after Independence.
The Zimbabwe Defence Forces accorded him full military honours, including a ceremonial gun salute, underscoring the nation’s gratitude for his immense contribution to the struggle for freedom and the building of an independent Zimbabwe.
As the final rites were observed at the National Heroes Acre, the nation bid a dignified farewell to a committed patriot whose legacy will remain etched in Zimbabwe’s history and continue to inspire future generations.
