MWOS Stuns Highlanders with Debut Victory

Written by on March 3, 2025

Newcomers MWOS FC delivered a stunning upset, defeating Highlanders FC 1-0 in their highly anticipated Premier Soccer League debut at Baobab Stadium yesterday.

After a tense first half that ended goalless, MWOS capitalized on a goalkeeping error by Raphael Pitisi in the 65th minute to score the decisive goal . The victory marked a dream start for the newly promoted side and a disappointing opening day for the Bulawayo giants who were aiming for a positive start to the season.

Speaking after the match, Highlanders coach Kelvin Kaindu attributed the defeat, in part, to a disrupted pre-season training schedule.

MWOS joins Scotland FC, who defeated Triangle 1-0 on Friday, as the only teams to secure victories in their opening matches. Kwekwe United also enjoyed a positive start, drawing 1-1 with Ngezi Platinum. Meanwhile, Harare giants Dynamos FC and ZPC Kariba played out a goalless draw at Rufaro Stadium.
