The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Trade, in collaboration with the Office of the President and Cabinet (OPC), has launched a joint initiative to strengthen Zimbabwe’s diaspora policy.

The event, held in Bulawayo brought together key stakeholders to identify gaps in the existing policy and discuss improvements that will be presented to the President in a draft form.

Permanent Secretary for Foreign Affairs and International Trade, Ambassador Albert Chimbimbi, highlighted that the initiative is a clear demonstration of the government’s commitment to national development and effective engagement with Zimbabweans living abroad. This aligns with the President’s broader vision of ensuring that all citizens, both at home and in the diaspora, contribute meaningfully to the country’s progress.

Ambassador Chimbimbi, who officially opened the event, underscored the importance of continuously reviewing and updating policies to ensure they effectively serve the nation’s evolving needs. He stressed that the government remains open to refining the diaspora policy in line with its long-term goals for national growth.

The two ministries are engaged in intensive discussions throughout the week, from Monday to Friday, with the aim of ensuring that the revised policy aligns with Zimbabwe’s broader development objectives.
