Farmers in Matebeleland are reaping the rewards of smart farming practices, amidst heavy rainfall. By embracing innovative techniques, farmers in rhe region are increasing their crop yields and safeguarding their livelihoods against the impacts of climate change.

In a recent address, the Permanent Secretary of Lands, Agriculture, Fisheries, Water, and Rural Development, Professor Orbet Jiri, recently praised the effectiveness of methods like pfumvudza/intwasa which prioritize soil conservation and efficient water use, allowing crops to flourish even in challenging conditions.

For farmers who faced setbacks during the initial dry spell, Professor Jiri encouraged planting short-season crops like sweet potatoes, sunflowers, and sugar beans to recover their losses.
