Lupane Provincial Hospital Expansion Gains Momentum as Major Infrastructure Nears Completion

The expansion of Lupane Provincial Hospital is gathering pace, with major infrastructure works advancing steadily and several key facilities nearing completion, in a development expected to significantly enhance healthcare delivery across Matabeleland North Province.

Special Advisor to the President on Monitoring and Evaluation of Government Projects and Programmes, Dr Jorum Gumbo, said 21 buildings are currently under construction at the hospital, with most of the structures now more than 60 percent complete.

Dr Gumbo made the remarks during a monitoring and evaluation tour of Government development projects in Lupane on Wednesday, where he expressed satisfaction with the progress being made on the flagship health institution.

A major highlight of the project is the completion of the hospital’s oxygen plant, which is now fully operational and capable of supplying medical oxygen to health facilities throughout Matabeleland North Province.

The development is expected to strengthen the region’s healthcare system by improving access to critical medical services, reducing reliance on distant suppliers and enhancing emergency response capacity for hospitals and clinics.

Once completed, the expanded provincial hospital is set to improve access to specialised healthcare services, increase patient capacity and contribute to the Government’s broader efforts to modernise public health infrastructure and bring quality healthcare closer to communities.

Dr Gumbo said the project reflects the Second Republic’s commitment to delivering people-centred development and ensuring that strategic investments in health infrastructure translate into improved service delivery and better health outcomes for citizens.

The monitoring and evaluation visit forms part of ongoing Government efforts to track the implementation of national development projects, ensuring they remain on schedule and deliver tangible socio-economic benefits to communities across the country.
