Govt Deploys Drones to Combat Smuggling

Presidential and Devolution Permanent Secretary Tafadzwa Muguti has announced intensified government efforts to tackle smuggling, including deploying drones at border posts.
Speaking during a tour of the Zimbabwe Revenue Authority (ZIMRA) warehouse in Bulawayo on Thursday, Muguti highlighted the smuggling challenges the country is facing and emphasized that the government is taking stringent measures to curb the crime.
He described smuggling as a severe crime undermining Zimbabwe’s economy and warned that goods seized from smugglers will be confiscated with no option for fines or recovery.
Muguti also underscored the government’s commitment to rebuilding Bulawayo’s industrial capacity, citing local companies producing stoves, clothing, and appliances. He reiterated the importance of importers paying the required duties and taxes, stressing that the government will continue prioritizing Zimbabwean jobs and the economy.
