Chinotimba Old People’s Home: A Beacon of Compassion and Community Spirit

Written by on January 8, 2025

The Chinotimba Old People’s Home has become a beacon of hope and resilience due to its innovative sponsored projects and community involvement. At the forefront of this success is the home’s thriving garden, which not only feeds the elderly residents but also generates income through vegetable sales.

“We are proud of our gardening project, which provides fresh produce for our residents,” said Nettie Chindedza, treasurer of the old people’s home. “We also sell excess vegetables to raise funds for essential items like bread.”

In addition to gardening, the home has expanded its projects to include poultry farming, with chickens and ducks providing eggs and meat.

This holistic approach ensures the elderly residents receive nutritious meals and basic necessities. Chindedza expressed heartfelt gratitude to the Victoria Falls community and stakeholders for their unwavering support.

“The community has been fantastic. They donate clothes, volunteer their time, and even help with laundry,” Chindedza said.

One resident, Mr. Ndlovu, praised the home’s warm hospitality. “I’m happy here. The staff treats me like family,” he said. Ndlovu also enjoys nature walks, which help him stay active and healthy.

The home’s sponsored projects have fostered a sense of purpose among residents.

Looking ahead to 2025, the home anticipates welcoming more elderly individuals, expanding its family.

“We are excited to grow and provide a loving environment for more seniors,” Chindedza said.

As the Chinotimba Old People’s Home continues to thrive, it serves as a testament to the power of collaboration and compassion. With its sustainable projects and community-driven approach, this Zimbabwean institution inspires hope and care for the elderly.
