VICTORIA FALLS, Zimbabwe — The arrival of the international Mercedes-Benz “140 Years” expedition in Victoria Falls represents a major vote of confidence in Zimbabwe’s global tourism brand, according to Zimbabwe Tourism Authority (ZTA) Chief Executive Officer Dr. George Manyaya.
Speaking following a reception ceremony on the historic Victoria Falls Bridge, Dr. Manyaya highlighted the significance of the world-renowned brand choosing Zimbabwe as part of its multi-country celebration.
During the event, the Mercedes-Benz crew showcased their convoy on the Victoria Falls Bridge before being taken to the ancient Big Tree, a heritage landmark estimated to be nearly 1,000 years old.
”Mercedes-Benz is a globally known brand with a vast following, and choosing to pass through Zimbabwe is a clear endorsement of our destination,” Manyaya said. “They are celebrating 140 years, which demonstrates resilience—a trait deeply shared by Zimbabwe’s tourism sector. Showcasing the 1,000-year-old Big Tree symbolizes that while they have reached 140 years, they can aspire to a millennium.”
The visiting delegation included senior German executives and digital influencers, providing high-value exposure in a critical target market. Germany currently stands as Zimbabwe’s third-largest international tourist source market, trailing only the United States and the United Kingdom.
”From their testimonies, they genuinely loved our tourist attractions, culture, and hospitality,” Manyaya noted. “They praised our people as one of Zimbabwe’s greatest assets, which positions them to return home as true brand ambassadors.”
The tour comes as Zimbabwe prepares to host the Sanganai World Tourism Expo from September 9 to 12 in Masvingo. The event will be preceded by a local sports tourism initiative from September 1 to 5, followed by:
B2B Exhibitions & Networking: High-level trade engagements between global buyers and local operators.
Specialized Masterclasses: Dedicated sessions covering Gastronomy and MICE (Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions) tourism.
Executive Leadership Forums: An African Tourism CEOs Roundtable focusing on sector growth strategies.
Pre- & Post-Expo Tours: Delegations exploring regional circuits, including Chiredzi and surrounding natural attractions.
Manyaya confirmed that international buyer registrations have already exceeded previous figures, supported by government-led road works and airport upgrades to facilitate seamless travel. “Tourism is a vital economic driver that fuels all other sectors,” he added, inviting global travelers to experience Zimbabwe.
