Victoria Falls Welcomes Historic 140-Country Mercedes-Benz Convoy

VICTORIA FALLS –  The Deputy Minister of Tourism and Hospitality Industry, Honourable Tongai Mnangagwa, has lauded the arrival of the global Mercedes-Benz “140 Years” world tour convoy in Victoria Falls, describing the event as a monumental boost for Zimbabwe’s international tourism profile.

​Speaking on the grounds of the historic Victoria Falls Hotel, Deputy Minister Mnangagwa highlighted the shared theme of resilience and heritage linking the world-renowned automotive brand with Zimbabwe’s iconic tourist landmarks.

​”What we are doing here in Victoria Falls is very significant for us in the tourism sector,” said Hon. Mnangagwa. “We are receiving an iconic brand that has been around for 140 years. That shows resilience—not many companies pass a hundred years.”

​The global expedition, celebrating 140 years of innovation, crossed into Zimbabwe via the historic Victoria Falls Bridge, which itself boasts over a century of history.

​Hon. Mnangagwa emphasized the symbolic harmony between the expedition and local landmarks, noting that receiving the delegation on the Victoria Falls Bridge and hosting them at the historic Victoria Falls Hotel represents continuity, strength, and endurance.

​”To us, all those things symbolize resilience and continuity,” Mnangagwa added. “All that, put together, tells a compelling story.”

​With the Mercedes-Benz expedition traveling through 140 countries worldwide, the Deputy Minister emphasized the vast international reach and promotional opportunity the visit brings to Zimbabwe’s hospitality sector.

​”Having such an iconic brand come through Zimbabwe as part of their 140-country journey is truly exciting,” said Mnangagwa. “They have a global viewership and following across the globe. As they experience Zimbabwe today, they are going to show the rest of the world what Zimbabwe is all about and return home as true brand ambassadors.”

​The visiting delegation was hosted at the Victoria Falls Hotel for an overnight stay, where they will experience local Zimbabwean culture, hospitality, and gastronomy before continuing their transcontinental journey.

​Deputy Minister Mnangagwa credited the success of hosting high-profile international events to the vision of President Emmerson Mnangagwa and the country’s drive for inclusive development and global engagement.
