Fastjet Introduces Airbus A320 as Government Signals Strong Support for Aviation and Tourism Growth

VICTORIA FALLS, ZIMBABWE – Fastjet Zimbabwe has officially introduced an Airbus A320 aircraft into its fleet, in a development hailed by Government officials as a major boost to the country’s aviation and tourism sectors.

The aircraft was welcomed during a ceremony held at Victoria Falls International Airport on August 2, 2026, attended by Government representatives, aviation stakeholders and tourism industry players.

Fastjet Zimbabwe Board Chairman, Mr. Farai Mutamangira, officially welcomed the Deputy Minister of Tourism and Hospitality Industry, Honourable Tongai Mnangagwa, who graced the occasion as Guest of Honour.

Addressing dignitaries, government representatives and aviation stakeholders, Mr. Mutamangira commended the strong and strategic partnership between the private aviation sector and Government, describing it as critical in driving tourism growth and enhancing regional economic integration.

The Minister of Transport and Infrastructural Development, Honourable Felix Mhona, who was represented by Mr Vengesa, described the introduction of the Airbus A320 as a bold step in strengthening Zimbabwe’s aviation capacity.

In remarks delivered on his behalf, the Minister said aviation remains a key enabler of economic transformation under Vision 2030 and the National Development Strategy 2. He highlighted milestones in the sector, including airline partnerships, increased connectivity and Zimbabwe’s growing presence on the global aviation stage.

He added that Government is committed to improving aviation infrastructure and addressing industry concerns such as high operational costs, including landing fees, to create a more competitive environment for airlines.

Meanwhile, Deputy Minister Mnangagwa described the arrival of the Airbus A320 as a significant investment in Zimbabwe’s tourism future.

“This is more than just an aircraft addition; it is a strong vote of confidence in Zimbabwe’s tourism potential and economic trajectory,” he said.

He underscored the close relationship between aviation and tourism, noting that the majority of international tourists travel by air, making airline capacity critical to sector growth.

The Deputy Minister also highlighted positive trends in the tourism sector, with international arrivals and tourism receipts surpassing pre-pandemic levels, reflecting strong recovery and growth potential.

He noted that the new aircraft will improve passenger experience, increase seat capacity and enable Fastjet to expand its domestic and regional routes, thereby improving access to key destinations such as Victoria Falls.

“The additional capacity will translate into increased tourism activity, higher hotel occupancy rates and broader economic benefits across the value chain,” he said.

Government reaffirmed its commitment to supporting both aviation and tourism through policy reforms, infrastructure development and stronger collaboration with industry players.

The event also marked another milestone for Fastjet Zimbabwe, which continues to expand its operations and strengthen its role in connecting Zimbabwe to regional and international markets.

Officials expressed confidence that the Airbus A320 will enhance connectivity, support growing passenger demand and contribute meaningfully to Zimbabwe’s economic growth.

“When aviation grows, tourism grows. When tourism grows, Zimbabwe prospers,” the Deputy Minister said.
