Zimbabwe Achieves Lowest Inflation in Over Three Decades as Economic Reforms Deliver Results

Zimbabwe has recorded single-digit annual inflation for the first time in more than 30 years, averaging 4.4 percent between January and June 2026, in a major milestone that reflects the success of ongoing fiscal and monetary reforms aimed at stabilising the economy.

The achievement was highlighted during a meeting between the Ministry of Finance, Economic Development and Investment Promotion and the Parliamentary Portfolio Committee on Budget, Finance and Investment Promotion, where officials reported continued progress in maintaining macroeconomic stability and strengthening public financial management.

The meeting heard that the 2026 National Budget remains firmly on course, with government expenditure reaching ZiG98.2 billion against a target of ZiG100 billion during the first five months of the year, demonstrating sustained fiscal discipline and prudent management of public resources.

Delegates also welcomed Zimbabwe’s ranking as the third best-performing country in Africa in the Open Budget Survey, a recognition that underscores the country’s growing commitment to transparency, accountability and international best practices in budget management.

The development was hailed as a significant step towards enhancing investor confidence, improving economic governance and supporting the country’s broader development agenda under Vision 2030.

Discussions focused on consolidating the gains achieved through continued reforms, strengthened parliamentary oversight and responsible fiscal management. Attention also turned to preparations for the forthcoming Mid-Term Budget Review and the 2027 Budget Strategy Paper, with stakeholders emphasising the need to build on recent achievements to sustain economic growth and stability.

The latest inflation figures and positive budget performance signal growing confidence in Zimbabwe’s economic trajectory as the country continues implementing measures designed to promote resilience, fiscal sustainability and inclusive development.
