Zimbabwe and China have reaffirmed their enduring friendship and commitment to deeper cooperation following an official visit to China by Minister of Veterans of the Liberation Struggle Affairs Monica Mavhunga and a delegation of liberation war veterans.

The visit, which runs from July 6 to 10 at the invitation of China’s Ministry of Veterans Affairs, is focused on strengthening collaboration in veterans’ affairs while advancing the broader strategic partnership between the two nations.

During engagements in Beijing, China’s Minister of Veterans Affairs, Pei Jinjia, underscored the importance of the longstanding relationship between the two countries, saying President Xi Jinping’s recent reply letter to Zimbabwe’s liberation war veterans demonstrates China’s continued commitment to fostering closer ties and enhancing cooperation.

The visit has provided an opportunity for both sides to exchange experiences on veterans’ welfare, preservation of liberation history and policies aimed at supporting former fighters who contributed to national liberation struggles.

Zimbabwe and China share a historic relationship forged during Zimbabwe’s liberation struggle, with the two countries maintaining strong political, economic and diplomatic ties over the decades.

Officials from both nations said the visit is expected to further deepen cooperation in veterans’ affairs, strengthen people-to-people relations and reinforce the historical bonds that continue to underpin the Zimbabwe-China partnership.

The engagement reflects ongoing efforts by Harare and Beijing to build on their shared history while exploring new avenues of cooperation that benefit veterans and contribute to the continued growth of bilateral relations.
