Zimbabweans Dominate Record-Breaking Victoria Falls Marathon

Zimbabwean athletes delivered a commanding performance at the 2026 Econet Victoria Falls Marathon, clinching victories in both the men’s full and half marathon races as the event attracted its largest-ever field of participants.
Leading the charge was Tendai Zimuto, who stormed to victory in the men’s 42-kilometre race to secure his second Victoria Falls Marathon title, having first won the prestigious event in 2024. Fellow Zimbabwean Godwin Katakura completed the nation’s successful campaign by claiming top honours in the men’s 21.1-kilometre half marathon.
The victories capped a memorable edition of one of Africa’s premier road-running events, which drew a record 6,000 participants from more than 40 countries. Elite athletes, amateur runners and fitness enthusiasts converged on the resort city, underscoring the marathon’s growing international appeal.
Set against the backdrop of the iconic Victoria Falls and the mighty Zambezi River, the race offered competitors a unique running experience through one of the world’s most celebrated natural landscapes.
Organisers hailed the record turnout as another milestone in the event’s growth, highlighting its increasing role in positioning Zimbabwe as a leading destination for international sporting events.
Beyond the competition, the annual marathon continues to drive sports tourism, generate economic activity for local businesses and showcase the country’s tourism potential to thousands of visitors from around the globe.
