The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) will host a fundraising golf tournament at Gweru Sports Club on 27 June as part of efforts to mobilise resources for the construction of the proposed ZRP Umguza High School in Matabeleland North Province.

According to a statement issued by the police service, the tournament is expected to bring together golfers, corporate sponsors, stakeholders and development partners from across the country in support of the ambitious education project.

The planned boarding school, which is being constructed near Ntabazinduna, approximately 40 kilometres from Bulawayo, is set to expand access to quality education while strengthening learning opportunities for communities in Matabeleland North and beyond.

Police said the institution will complement the existing ZRP High School in Hatcliffe, Harare, and forms part of broader efforts to invest in education infrastructure and human capital development.

The one-day tournament, scheduled to run from 7am to 8:30pm, will feature competition among golfers vying for various prizes, while serving as a platform to rally financial support for the completion of the school.

ZRP has extended an invitation to members of the public, the corporate sector, development partners, stakeholders and golf enthusiasts to participate in and sponsor the event, highlighting the critical role of collective support in advancing educational development.

The police service said proceeds from the tournament will contribute towards accelerating construction works at the school, which is expected to enhance access to boarding education and create greater opportunities for learners in the region.

The initiative reflects ZRP’s continued commitment to supporting national development through investment in education, with the Umguza High School project anticipated to become a significant addition to Zimbabwe’s educational landscape once completed.

Organisers expressed optimism that the tournament will attract strong support and help drive the successful completion of a project designed to empower future generations through quality education.
