Zimbabwe and China are strengthening ties in the media and broadcasting sector following the participation of a high-level Zimbabwean delegation in a media development seminar hosted by the Academy for International Business Officials in China.
The delegation, led by Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services Minister Zhemu Soda, includes local media professionals taking part in the programme aimed at enhancing Zimbabwe’s media capacity and promoting deeper cooperation in broadcasting, communications, and digital innovation.
Speaking during the seminar, Minister Soda said Zimbabwe is actively seeking strategic partnerships to modernise its broadcasting infrastructure as part of broader efforts to transform the country’s media landscape. He identified radio and television transmission networks as key areas offering investment opportunities for international partners.
The minister also reaffirmed Government’s ambition to attain 100 percent national broadcasting signal coverage by 2030, saying the initiative is critical to expanding access to information and communication services across all communities, particularly in remote and underserved areas.
Beyond infrastructure development, the seminar is expected to expose Zimbabwean media practitioners to global best practices and emerging trends in digital communication, international broadcasting standards, and modern media management.
The engagement reflects the continued strengthening of bilateral relations between Zimbabwe and China, with cooperation increasingly extending beyond infrastructure and trade into technology, education, and media development.
Zimbabwe’s participation also signals the country’s commitment to accelerating digital transformation within the broadcasting sector while fostering international partnerships that support innovation and knowledge exchange.
