Ubuntu Race 2026: Victoria Falls to Host Powerful Event Against Drugs, GBV and Chronic Illnesses

Written by on May 1, 2026

VICTORIA FALLS – The iconic tourist town of Victoria Falls is set to roar with purpose on 24 May 2026 as the annual Ubuntu Race returns – this year with a bold new mission. Organisers have announced that the event, themed “Crawl – Walk – Run – Fly For Your Cause,” will take a strong stand against drug and substance abuse, gender-based violence (GBV), chronic illnesses, and all forms of unhealthy habits.

More than just a sporting occasion, the race celebrates the deep African philosophy of Ubuntu – humanity towards others – by turning collective action into a weapon against the social and health crises plaguing communities.

Scheduled to start at 6:00 AM from King’s Primary School in Victoria Falls, the Ubuntu Race 2026 offers three distances to cater for all ages and fitness levels:

· 5KM Family Safari – perfect for casual runners and families

· 10KM Explorer’s Path – for those seeking a moderate challenge

· 21KM Warrior’s Journey – for serious athletes and defenders of a cause

“This year is special and important because every kilometre will be run in protest against drugs, against gender-based violence, against chronic illnesses, and against all unhealthy lifestyles,” said Coach Mabasa, one of the race coordinators. “We are not just exercising. We are saying ‘enough is enough’ as a community bound by Ubuntu.”

Why This Year’s Race Is Different

While previous editions focused primarily on fitness and fun, the 2026 Ubuntu Race has been reimagined as a themed advocacy event. Each race category will carry a distinct message:

· Fight against drug and substance abuse – highlighting the devastation of addiction among youths and adults.

· End gender-based violence – promoting safe homes and respect for all.

· Stop chronic illnesses – encouraging early detection, healthy eating, and regular exercise.

· Reject all unhealthy habits – from sedentary living to poor mental health choices.

Organisers believe that by rallying hundreds of runners under one banner, the Ubuntu Race will spark conversations that extend far beyond the finish line.

Special Incentives for Early Birds and Schools

To drive mass participation, the race committee has announced attractive offers:

· The first 100 registrants will receive a FREE cap.

· School groups (children aged 12 years and below) can register at a special price of only $12 per participant.

· Regular entry for all races is $20, which includes refreshments.

“We want children to be at the forefront of this movement,” Coach Mabasa added. “They are the most vulnerable to peer pressure and drugs, but also the most powerful agents of change. The discounted school rate ensures that no child is left behind.”

“Let every step say no to drugs, no to violence, yes to life. That is Ubuntu,” Coach Mabasa said.
