ZIFA Terminates Michael Nees’ Contract as Warriors Head Coach

The Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) has announced the immediate termination of Michael Nees’ contract as head coach of the Zimbabwe men’s national football team, the Warriors.
In a statement released today, the ZIFA Executive Committee said the decision was taken to “pave the way for new technical direction” following a series of disappointing results. The association expressed gratitude to Nees for his efforts and contributions to Zimbabwean football during his tenure.
Nees, a 57-year-old German coach, was appointed earlier this year and brought with him extensive international experience. However, under his leadership, the Warriors endured a winless run in the World Cup qualifiers, prompting calls for change within the football community.
ZIFA reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening technical programs and advancing football development across the country. The association said details regarding interim coaching arrangements and the transition process would be announced in due course.
Meanwhile, the Warriors are preparing for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco, where they are drawn in Group B alongside Egypt, Angola, and South Africa—a challenging lineup as the team looks to rebuild and restore national pride.
