The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) in Bulawayo reported 74 accidents between last Wednesday and this Wednesday, resulting in four fatalities and 13 injuries.
According to Assistant Inspector Nomalanga Msebele, the rainy season and numerous potholes have contributed to the rise in accidents.
Msebele urged drivers to exercise caution and patience, particularly with the start of the new school term. She highlighted the case of two children, aged 14 and 8, who were hit by separate vehicles on Tuesday.
In addition, Msebele advised parents to teach children road safety, emphasizing the importance of using pedestrian crossings, avoiding earphones while crossing, and discouraging walking in large groups to reduce the risk of accidents.
