Zimbabwe Rafting Team Breaks Into World Top 10 Despite Limited Squad

Zimbabwe’s rafting team has achieved a significant milestone on the international stage after breaking into the world’s top 10 at the Rafting World Cup Series, despite competing with only four athletes and no substitute paddlers.
Team representative Mr Moyo said the achievement was particularly remarkable given the challenges faced by the Zimbabwean squad, which was forced to rely on a single four-member team throughout the competition while rival nations fielded multiple teams and larger contingents.
He noted that host nation Kenya entered dozens of competitors, allowing athletes to rotate between races and remain fresh, while Zimbabwe’s team had to compete continuously across all events without the benefit of replacements.
Despite the disadvantage, Zimbabwe delivered a strong performance to finish among Africa’s leading rafting nations, underlining the country’s growing potential in the sport.
Mr Moyo described the result as a major encouragement for the team and a testament to the determination and resilience of the athletes. He expressed confidence that Zimbabwe could achieve even greater success on the world stage if afforded the opportunity to send a larger delegation to future competitions.
He said expanding the squad would strengthen Zimbabwe’s competitiveness, improve athlete recovery and increase the country’s chances of challenging for podium finishes and top honours at major international rafting events.
The breakthrough result marks an important step forward for Zimbabwean rafting and highlights the potential for further growth as the sport continues to gain momentum in the country.
