The Government has reaffirmed its commitment to building a highly skilled, accountable and results-oriented public service following the graduation of the second cohort of the Leadership Excellence in Africa’s Public Sector (LEAPS) Programme and the launch of Cohort 3.

Senior officials from the Ministry of Finance, Economic Development and Investment Promotion completed the leadership development programme, while 15 new participants were inducted into the next six-month training cycle under the initiative spearheaded by the African Capacity Building Foundation (ACBF).

Speaking on behalf of the Minister of Finance, Economic Development and Investment Promotion, Professor Mthuli Ncube, Accountant-General Mr Kachasu said the programme is playing a critical role in strengthening leadership and public financial management, key pillars for enhancing accountability, economic governance and efficient service delivery.

He said developing capable leaders within the public sector remains essential to improving institutional performance and ensuring the effective implementation of national development priorities.

Aligned with the National Development Strategy 2 (NDS2), the LEAPS Programme focuses on human capital development by equipping public sector leaders with competencies in self-leadership, team management, organisational strategy and public financial management.

Government officials said the initiative is expected to enhance institutional capacity, cultivate a professional and high-performing public service, and contribute to sustainable socio-economic transformation through improved governance and public sector efficiency.

The graduation of Cohort 2 and induction of Cohort 3 underscore the Government’s continued investment in leadership development as it seeks to build a modern, responsive and performance-driven public sector capable of delivering on Zimbabwe’s development agenda.
