Industry and Commerce Minister Mangaliso Ndlovu has commissioned the new Consumer Protection Commission (CPC) headquarters and a fleet of operational vehicles in a move expected to strengthen consumer rights enforcement and enhance market regulation across Zimbabwe.
The investment is set to bolster the commission’s capacity to investigate complaints, curb unfair business practices and promote ethical trade standards, as Government intensifies efforts to safeguard consumers and improve market accountability.
Speaking during the commissioning ceremony, Minister Ndlovu said the new infrastructure and operational vehicles will significantly improve the commission’s efficiency, enabling it to broaden its reach and respond more effectively to consumer concerns across the country.
He said the additional vehicles would enhance mobility for inspections, investigations and public awareness campaigns, while the new headquarters is expected to improve coordination and strengthen service delivery.
Minister Ndlovu noted that the Consumer Protection Commission has in recent months intensified enforcement efforts against unethical business conduct, including the sale of illicit alcoholic beverages, unjustified price hikes on goods and services, and businesses operating without Point-of-Sale (POS) machines.
He said strengthening the commission’s operational capacity is critical in ensuring compliance with consumer protection laws and fostering a fair, transparent and competitive marketplace.
The commissioning of the headquarters and vehicles underscores Government’s commitment to strengthening institutions tasked with protecting consumers, enforcing market discipline and promoting confidence in the country’s commercial environment.
Authorities say the enhanced operational capacity will allow the commission to respond more swiftly to violations, reinforce compliance monitoring and better protect consumers from exploitation in an evolving marketplace.
