Zimbabwe’s Minister of Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Services, Zhemu Soda, yesterday met senior officials from China’s National Radio and Television Administration in Beijing to discuss cooperation aimed at modernising Zimbabwe’s media sector.

The meeting took place at the Academy for International Business Officials (AIBO) on the sidelines of a specialised media development seminar attended by Zimbabwean media professionals.

During the engagement, Minister Soda invited Chinese investment into Zimbabwe’s radio and television transmission infrastructure to help address broadcasting coverage gaps in some parts of the country.

According to the Ministry, the proposed cooperation seeks to leverage China’s expertise in digital broadcasting and artificial intelligence as Zimbabwe works towards achieving nationwide broadcasting coverage by 2030.

The discussions also focused on strengthening collaboration in combating disinformation and expanding training opportunities for Zimbabwean media practitioners in international broadcasting standards.

Government says the engagement forms part of Zimbabwe’s broader “Open for Business” policy aimed at attracting investment and advancing the country’s digital transformation agenda.
