The Parliamentary Public Accounts Committee yesterday carried out its fourth verification and oversight visit of entities under the Mutapa Investment Fund at Freda Rebecca Gold Mine in Bindura, as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen transparency, accountability, and governance within strategic State-linked enterprises.

The high-level oversight mission was attended by Minister of State for Mashonaland Central Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Christopher Magomo, alongside traditional leaders and Bindura legislator Tinashe Chinodakufa Musanhi.

During the engagement, members of the committee held an extensive question-and-answer session with mine management focusing on operational efficiency, production performance, financial accountability, corporate governance, and the mine’s contribution to national economic development.

The delegation later toured the mine’s operational facilities to gain firsthand insight into production processes, infrastructure, and ongoing investment activities at one of Zimbabwe’s key gold-producing operations.

The visit forms part of Parliament’s broader constitutional oversight mandate aimed at ensuring public entities and State-linked investments operate transparently, efficiently, and in line with national development priorities.

Officials said the oversight exercise also reflects growing emphasis on strengthening accountability mechanisms within entities under the Mutapa Investment Fund, which manages strategic national assets across key sectors of the economy.

Freda Rebecca Gold Mine remains one of Zimbabwe’s significant mining operations, contributing to gold production, employment creation, and foreign currency generation within the country’s mining sector.
