Chief Wasi of Mangwe District has welcomed a noticeable decline in gender-based violence cases, crediting increased awareness programmes being rolled out in the area.

Speaking to SkyzMetro FM, Chief Wasi represented by her daughter Liluba Ngwenya, said initiatives such as Sista2Sista and the Not In My Village campaign, spearheaded by the National AIDS Council, have played a key role in educating communities about gender-based violence, abuse, and early child marriages.

Chief Wasi noted that while some cases are still being reported in a few villages, they are no longer as frequent or persistent as in the past.

She however added that, continued community engagement and awareness remain crucial in sustaining the progress made so far in the district.
